A Rare and Secluded Sanctuary
Situated within the exclusive Renosterveld Project, this protected conservation area spans 350 hectares of pristine wilderness along the majestic Breede River. Located just two-and-a-half hours from Cape Town and 30 km south of Swellendam, the estate offers 2.6 km of river frontage on one of the most peaceful, unspoiled stretches of water in the country. Furthermore, with only 20 private properties in this secluded portion of the protected conservation area – and only three currently developed – guests are guaranteed an unparalleled sense of privacy and a true escape from the modern world.
Protecting the 5%
The Renosterveld is a jewel within the Fynbos biome, yet it remains one of the most threatened vegetation types on Earth. Today, only 5% of its original extent remains, as much of this fertile land was historically lost to agriculture. Consequently, with less than 1.6% currently under formal protection, the protected conservation area serves as a vital sanctuary for this endangered ecosystem. Named after the ‘Renosterbos’ – the hardy shrub once grazed only by the Black Rhinoceros – this landscape is a living testament to a wilder past that we are dedicated to preserving.
Did you know?
The name Renosterveld is a tribute to the Black Rhinoceros that once roamed these plains. Derived from the Afrikaans ‘renosterbos-veld‘, it refers to the hardy, grey-toned shrub that dominates this landscape. Historically, the Black Rhino was the only inhabitant capable of grazing on this bitter, ‘unpleasant-tasting’ bush – linking the survival of this majestic creature to the very soil upon which our eco pods now stand.

Our Vision: Luxury with Intention
At Renosterveld Eco Pods, our mission is to offer an immersive escape that prioritizes the health of the land as much as the comfort of our guests. We developed our sanctuary under strict environmental consultation. Therefore ensuring that every structure was incorporated with the least possible impact on this sensitive ecosystem. By choosing an off-grid experience, you are participating in the sustainable monitoring and protection of one of the world’s most precious biomes – allowing the Renosterveld to flourish for generations to come.
A Wealth of Life & Luxury
Life flourishes here in abundance. Indeed, from the magnificent spring floral displays and surrounding golden canola fields, this pristine sanctuary remains a thriving corridor for indigenous fauna. The air is filled with the calls of over 300 bird species, including the endangered Black Harrier and the iconic Fish Eagle.
